So, internets, [livejournal.com profile] mcl4r3n and I kinda sorta finally finished Le Batfic. Like, really finished it. Final word count is about 52,000 words (give or take a few hundred after overall revisions). Holyshit.

Title: Celer, Silens, Mortalis (Part 14/Epilogue)
Authors: [livejournal.com profile] emerald_skies and [livejournal.com profile] mcl4r3n
Summary: In which Brad gives a gift and makes an important visit, while Ray and Walt grow closer in more ways than one. All's well that ends well!

'Jesus, Joseph, and doggy-style Mary, Walt!' )

Comments of all kinds are, as usual, always welcome and fully encouraged. In the mean time, enjoy!

All right, internets, here's the deal.

Basically, between my computer fucking up the file and the fact that my free time keeps disappearing into the ethers, I'm going to postpone my reaction posts until my Thanksgiving break (which starts on Wednesday night). I could throw something short and crappy together really fast, but I want to do this shit right, which makes it a lot more time consuming.

Feel free to judge the shit out of me, I already feel pretty stupid about it as it is :-\

In the mean time, have a half-part (or a short full part, as it were) of some more Batfic as an apology:

Title: Celer, Silens, Mortalis (Part 11a)
Authors: [livejournal.com profile] emerald_skies and [livejournal.com profile] mcl4r3n
Summary: A short little interlude in which Nate and Brad do their level well best to charm the pants off each other. Possibly literally.

Nate sips green tea in his favorite little Japanese restaurant... )

I decided on a spur of the moment impulse to try out that preview thing. Love it? Hate it/think it's unfair teasing? Let me know! Hope y'all like the rest in the mean time :)

Howdy, internets! Sorry for the disappearance, the combination of being sick (a horrible chest cold), hellishly busy, and a couple of technical difficulties put me way behind in all the shit I've been wanting to do. But fear not, I'm alive (barely) and slowly-but-surely catching up! A couple of things to tide y'all over:

1) A fic rec: Just a riddle in the sky by [livejournal.com profile] meeks00 - Gen (Brad & Ray) - A Supernatural AU in which Ray doesn't so much brush with darkness as collide with it. Well, it and veteran hunter Brad Colbert.

2) Some website pimpage: As some of you might know, the official Stark fan site up until now was pretty out-of-date and generally rather "blah". Well, [livejournal.com profile] mrsmisanthrope (over in [livejournal.com profile] stark_sands) decided to change all that and has started a new one. It rocks pretty hard, but it's still new and needs some things (more info here).

Also, I finally ordered myself Rudy's book, Hero Living: Seven Strides To Awaken Your Infinite Power. I initially avoided it because I don't go for self-help books, but I'm told it's more autobiographical than that and that Rudy's had a pretty intense life that translated into an interesting book. It's supposed to get here by Thursday, so I'll let y'all know how that goes. Plus more fic and that Kung Fu Hustle review post...and other catching up...augh

1) The fact that my Applied Kinesiology professor from two semesters ago

a) Remembered me enough to wander over and chat with me
b) Has a Black Flag tattoo on the back of his neck (and enough other tattoos that even Tunny would be impressed)
c) Is actually surprisingly attractive (he teaches Brazilian jiujitsu on the side, picture the results of that for a moment)

2) Adding to the ever-expanding mental list of Things I Cannot Say to Stark When I Meet Him

3) Movies I want to see this weekend

4) Stuff to post on here (damn it...)

5) Scenes for my Starsgard fic

6) Scenes for the Batman!AU

7) All the horribly violent things I'd like to do to the asshole from the athletic training program who sauntered over to make insincere chitchat with me

8) The fact that I was mistaken for a grad student (again) earlier today

2) How many of you are science majors (as in the laboratory kind)? (my guess: none of you, I know this because of the ridiculously excessive free time you have)

Internets, you wanna know what sucks?

Waking up at 3:00 a.m. to find yourself sick as a proverbial dog from food poisoning.

Wanna know what sucks even more?

Going to your 10:00 a.m. class in spite of the four hours (tops) of tossing/turning/waking-up-at-random sleep you got the night before. All while still feeling pretty majorly crappy.

Welcome to my life.
Photobucket

The short and the short of it is that I'm now incredibly behind on everything because I crashed for like 7ish hours after I got back from class. It wasn't even a "I think I'll go take a nap or something" moment, I just sat down on the bed and woke up several hours later. Blergh. Being sick sucks, y'all.

Anyway, while I scramble to catch up on everything, I'd like to appeal to any photography/camera wonks out there on my flist.

Salutations, internets!

First, I know I said a large chunk of Batman!fic would be up soon, but overall revisions got more complicated than we were expecting (because this thing keeps expanding), so I decided to post a smaller part that's already pretty set to tide y'all over.

(Link to the fic's tag page for previous parts: here)

Title: Celer, Silens, Mortalis (Part 2)
Authors: [livejournal.com profile] emerald_skies and [livejournal.com profile] mcl4r3n
Summary: In which Brad has an idea, Nate gets a surprise, and things start to get complicated (as they are wont to do).

The plot thickens! )

Because I am totally neurotic and perfectionist when it comes to writing, many many edits will probably occur throughout the day depending on how strong the urge to nitpick gets. In the mean time? Enjoy!

Also, many thanks to everyone for their support in my Inception/Tom Hardy/sleeping-pill-induced rambling post. Please continue being awesome, internets.

Finally, because I (for once) don't have a huge looming assignment due next week, I'll actually be able to sit down and tackle a bunch of review posts over the weekend (including two Glee posts, two Supernatural posts, and the Kung Fu Hustle post). Oh God, what is my life /o\

So, internets, I've decided I'm going to ramble about Tom Hardy and, tangentially, Inception (which I have yet to see for reasons that will be discussed in this post) as a way to pass time while I wait for my sleeping pill to kick in.

It all started with this secret over in [livejournal.com profile] fandomsecrets

Part 1: In which the author realizes something important about Tom Hardy (and herself) )

Part 2: Reasons why I have yet to see Inception even though everyone and their mom seems to love it )

Finally, I'm in the process of cooking up some sort of entertaining post (even if it's just a pic/gifspam) in honor of the fact that it's Stark's birthday today (after a moment of "I feel like there's a birthday I'm missing", I looked it up and lo and behold...)

For the moment? Spam the fuck out of this post accordingly. Here, I'll start... )

Happy birthday, Stark. Please keep being your usual awesome self <3

emerald_skies: (Default)
Howdy, internets! A few things:

1) More Batman!fic is coming (including at least four new players and a significantly thickened plot) -- just joint revisions and a couple of short connecting-the-dots scenes left to do.

(Side note: my Starsgard fic is going on temporary hiatus because this Batman!fic is eating my brain. The bright side to all this is that the story is developing much faster than anything else I've ever worked on, so it might not be as long a hiatus as expected)

2) Because college is doing its damnedest to crush my will to live, I'm postponing my review posts (two Glee eps and one Supernatural ep) until at least tomorrow. The Kung Fu Hustle review post is probably going to go up this weekend.

Feel free to throw things at me or something, I fully realize that I occasionally suck at planning things.

3) Awesome/adorkable vid of the day (in which Billie Joe Armstrong is STILL adorable and pocket-sized and we see that you're never too old to be a flaily fangirl/boy) )

Aaaaaand that's all I've got for now. Stark and his ridiculous tongue thank you for your time:

So, internets, it occurs to me that I might possibly have bitten off more than I can chew in terms of internet activity.

1) I may or may not be working on a GK Batman!AU with [livejournal.com profile] mcl4r3n. It's looking like it's going to be pretty long. Awesome, but also long.

2) I'm also still working on a comic relief scene for my Starsgard fic (my 6500-words-and-counting-and-I'm-barely-halfway-done Starsgard fic).

3) I'm also going to be doing regular Glee (and possibly Supernatural) reaction posts now.

4) I still have that Kung Fu Hustle review post to do.

Plus my to-do list from like six months ago. Not to mention not flunking college as I do all this.

Internets, it's been a pretty strange week, so this is gonna be a pretty strange post. Of course, by strange I mean A.D.D.

1) First, some fic recs:
- Easy to say but harder to feel this way by [livejournal.com profile] noelia_g - Brad/Nate - A FBI/undercover!AU featuring Brad and Nate playing house in, as Brad puts it, "ABC fucking Family hell on earth". Only, it turns out they're not playing as much as they thought after all. Enjoyable chemistry and tension going on, and interactions I could actually see playing out in my head. Plus Ray makes an appearance as his usual awesome, tech-wizard self, but that's just a bonus. Generally speaking, the writing is such that you can't help but root for the boys to wind up together.

- The End Of The Line by [livejournal.com profile] romanticalgirl - Brad/Nate (implied) - A very thought-provoking conversation piece between Brad and Nate when Brad comes back from the war. Great for the politically minded, but generally intriguing insights into their characters as well.

- Five Times People Realized Brad And Nate Were Together by [livejournal.com profile] irisgirl12000 - Brad/Nate (implied-ish) - What it says on the tin, basically. Very subtle and, in one or two places, just plain sweet. Generally, it seems like a pretty plausible view of how the boys navigate around DADT. (Also, Reporter's bit is hilarious, y'all will see what I mean)

- Falling Apart To Half Time by [livejournal.com profile] miss_begonia - Brad/Nate - Pretty much the best dance!AU I've ever come across (I'm something of a closet dance wonk, so these things are relevant to my interests). Very enjoyable sexual tension/chemistry, creative use of side characters (Poke has "Latin hips", y'all), intriguing song list (.zip file of songs used in the fic is offered at the very end), this has pretty much everything.

2) What The Sugar-Frosted Fuck Is Wrong With People? (Part 1) and Part 2. Also known as Why Hanging Out On [livejournal.com profile] ontd_political Is Bad For Your Mental Health.

3) The new GK kink meme (bonus points to whoever finds my prompt :D) I've said it before and I'll say it again: there are some sick, talented weirdos in our fandom and I LOVE IT. I hope they never leave <3

4) [livejournal.com profile] sgrio posted this little gem, which I've affectionately christened The Many, Many Reasons Stephenie Meyer's Editor Needs To Be Shot Into The Sun. Especially humorous for the literarily inclined and the grammar wonks of the internet.

5) A humorous conversation with Le Boyfriend:

Le Boyfriend: So I notice the nursing majors are traveling in larger packs than usual lately.
Me: They're clearly massing (for some nursing revolution, obviously)
Le Boyfriend: So...if enough nurses mass in one place, would they all congeal into a doctor?
Me: ...

Photobucket

Maybe I'm just especially sleep-deprived (you know, to that point where everything is hilarious) or it was a "you had to be there" sort of deal, but I thought that was fantastic. Stuff like this is absolutely why I keep him around.

Anyway, I'm sorry I disappeared for so long. I had a long, immensely headache-inducing issue with my computer (the wall charger died, so I couldn't use my laptop for a while), a mind-boggling shuffle of school work (including weather-related acts of God!), and just...life happened. To be more precise, college life happened, in the sense that it hit me like a fucking truck. Things are better now for the moment, so I should be a bit more active now.

Howdy do, internets. Just popping in to say that posts here are going to be a bit more sporadic than usual this week since I have to house-sit while Les Olds are on vacation. In other words, I'm still alive, just busy. In the mean time, for those who don't know:

1) [livejournal.com profile] pjvilar posted a link to this fiendishly addicting blog which, in turned, spawned...

2) [livejournal.com profile] combat_jack's 25 Things About My Sexuality: GK Edition. I am absolutely addicted to both (especially the Nate thread, my God *__*)

Unf.

Dear lawn/yard crew,

Did you really, really have to get started at eight in the morning? I actually managed to get to bed early and stay asleep all the way through the night for once and you start up your astonishingly loud equipment RIGHT NEXT TO MY WINDOW at EIGHT IN THE BLOODY MORNING. I didn't get in to the professional athletic training program for my university.

I got rejected.

Again.

Internets, I've been running on fumes for the last month or so and still working my ass off for this stupid fucking program that obviously doesn't give a fuck about me and yet it didn't work out. So now, here I sit wondering just what about me wasn't good enough and, most of all, what the fucking point of all this was. Edit to add: If anyone who's seen Donnie Darko (and has better gif skills than me) would be willing to bring me a gif of the part where Drew Barrymore's character gets fired (she goes to the baseball field and screams "FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCK" at the top of her lungs), I'd really appreciate it. Okay, I know about a gazillion of y'all (at least, of the ones who watch Glee) get all kinds of secondhand embarrassment when Will raps, but I'd still like to bring this video to everyone's attention because you, if you're anything like me, will watch it and be like "GET IT JGROFF UNF UNF UNF" I like him dancing better than I like Matthew Morrison dancing (and that's saying something). Also, my inner dance nerd wants so bad to learn that choreography because it looks so athletic and fun. Damn you, blown out knees :(

Sigh. I wish more photos/interviews of Stark would surface, all this squeeing over JGroff feels like fangirl!cheating (although, is it still cheating if all accounts indicate that JGroff fangirls for Stark too? XD)

(Side note: Let me know if Fox banninates that video and I'll try to track down another one)

Anyway, I come bearing the promise of a review post of One Missed Call (as requested by [livejournal.com profile] sharksdontsleep), and a fic rec roundup:

1) More LT. Jailbait (Brad/Nate) by [livejournal.com profile] passionofmind (which includes some excellent Ray!banter about how bending over for Brad could actually increase one's manliness)

2) Everything Starts Now (Brad/Nate, 1870s!AU) by [livejournal.com profile] lickingbeads (which includes some of the most well-written UST I've ever seen and Ray as an IC horse -- yeah, you read that right)

3) In which Brad and Meekus meet, and all's well that ends well (gen with background Brad/Nate and Ray/Walt) by [livejournal.com profile] forochel (Pretty self-explanatory -- you KNOW you want to see what Brad would make of Meekus from Zoolander)

4) A Little Madness In The Spring (gen, RPF, zombie!AU) by [livejournal.com profile] __sine (which includes PJ being his usual awesome self, Stark and ASkars being a demented Tweedle Dee & Tweedle Dum, and Paul Bettany being dotty and English and yet still awesome)

That's all I've got for now. Back to itching like crazy (stupid sunburn) and killing myself over my Biomechanics final tomorrow(!!!)

Salutations, internets! Here, as promised, is my review post of The Ruins, as suggested to me by [livejournal.com profile] their_darkness. Given some people's reactions when they found out I'm reviewing this (ranging from "BAHAHAHAHAHA" to "Oh God, I'm so sorry"), I'm concerned that this is going to turn out like House of 1,000 Corpses, but [livejournal.com profile] their_darkness also suggested 11:14 (which I loved), so I remain cautiously optimistic. We'll see if I wind up regretting that...

Anyway, here's what the Netflix envelope had to say about it:

"An idyllic vacation in Cancun takes a dangerous turn for four young Americans when they're persuaded by a mysterious tourist to join an archaeological dig and subsequently find themselves lost within the cursed ruins of a forgotten city. Adapted by Scott B. Smith from his own novel, this bone-chilling thriller from director Carter Smith stars Jonathan Tucker, Laura Ramsey, Jena Melone, and Shawn Ashmore."

Oh shit, I actually know who two of those people are -- Jena Malone from Saved!, Cold Mountain, and Donnie Darko and Shawn Ashmore from Animorphs (don't judge me, I was like 12 at the time) and the X-Men series. I hope Shawn lives at least, it would make me sad to watch Bobby/Jake die ;__;

Notes taken as I watched the movie... )

And then the actual review...

Internets, normally I don't like to talk about politics (as I feel it and religion make even logical people go completely batshit), but for once I feel compelled to do so because I'm facing a bit of a conundrum on a particular issue -- specifically, that legislation in Arizona that's been stirring up so much controversy recently.

Basically, I used to think I was solidly against the issue because I feel that 1) it presents a potentially worrisome slippery slope into racial profiling/more invasive government and 2) that the U.S. should focus on making it easier to become a citizen instead of just making it harder to get/be in the country. However, I saw recently that people who supported the legislation are in favor of a similar concept of immigration reform to the one I just described. So, where does that put me in relation to this legislation? I'm not so sure I understand the full picture anymore and, for some reason, that really bothers me...

Anyway, I started a new D&D campaign with Les Neighbors tonight (an Elven cleric of Corellon Larethian, for those who play 3.5) and actually whooped a surprising amount of ass for someone who's used to playing sorcerers (and thus has no clue about melee fighting). I also got to serve as the handler for Le Boyfriend's barbarian -- I'm the only one who can speak his language since Elves are all polyglottal and shit. Much geeky fun was had by all -- someone even attacked the darkness!*

* - Bonus points to whoever can explain the reference

Finally, since I have a fairly significant birthday coming up this December, I'm contemplating asking Les Olds for tickets to NYC over the holidays so I can finally, finally see American Idiot. All these posts about it and how awesome it is are seriously killing me, so I'm going to see what I can do about making my way out there just so I can finally get the full experience. It'll be totally worth it just for that, even if I wind up being too chickenshit to the stage door thing (and bring my copy of Die Mommie Die for Stark to sign just to watch his head explode). Abstractly, I wonder if he'd be flattered or creeped out if he found out how far I came just to see the show.

Ugh, back to dreading this week and the lovely, exhausting mix of clinic duty and studying for finals the it shall bring. Well, that and the conflicting urges to avoid my school email vs. checking it every ten minutes to find out if I got into the athletic training program (I wanna know but I'm scared to know as well).

Once again, thanks for reading a pretty darn pointless entry. Have some dancing!Mike Chang for y'all's time

So, a few things...

1) I literally just finished Dead in the Family about ten minutes ago. I may have to read it again to fully grasp everything that was going on enough to do a well-reasoned review post about it, but if anyone wants to discuss it, I'm totally game.

2) On the bright side, I'm slightly less sunburned now (and have the geekiest, most bitchin' watch tan ever)

3) I'm having bipolar issues right now and it sucks. Basically, my brain is processing everything way faster (and more randomly) than usual in a way that's kindof exhausting and basically impossible to control. Imagine watching T.V. with someone else changing the channel every two seconds, that's about the best way I can describe it. It also makes it virtually impossible to sleep, so I know I'll be up for quite some time if anyone just wants to chat.

4) Dear LiveJournal,

This comment notification fail thing isn't funny anymore. I'm tired of my Inbox being schwacked to hell every time y'all finally decide to get your collective shit together. Consider working on that?

Longtime masochist paid user,
[livejournal.com profile] emerald_skies

5) Cats are weird. Mine has been tearing around the house at top speed for the last two hours, and when she raced into my room just now, her pupils were huge. I suspect catnip is afoot. Or possibly shrooms. Or messages from her home planet, it's really kindof hard to tell.

6) Note to self re: things to post on here
- Glee 1x16 reaction post
- Glee 1x17 reaction post
- More of Picking Up The Pieces
- The Ruins review post
- Further OZ ramblings upon completion of Season 4
- Dead in the Family review post(?)

Dear Dr. Guest Lecturer,

I went to your seminar tonight (even though I didn't have to) because it was about concussions -- which I find particularly interesting -- and ImPACT testing. And, admittedly, your presentation was quite good during the hour that you were given to speak (I actually learned alot).

It was the additional hour after that in which you just rambled that turned me (and everyone else) against you. Now, I understand losing track of time when you talk about something that really interests you, but there's losing track of time and then there's losing your damn mind.

Then, when you finally realized some of us might have places to be, you asked us for feedback on your presentation. Great! But you couched it in such a way that anyone who gave honest criticism would've been in serious trouble with the heads of our program, so we all had to smile and nod and say it was good. Similar bad things would've happened to us if we left before you were done -- so basically, our collective hands were tied. So yeah, not so great.

All that being said, I'm pretty sure I wasn't the only one who wanted to make you eat your own laser pointer by the end of the thing. Situational awareness -- LEARN YOU SOME.

Sincerely hoping you learn to get over yourself,
The redheaded girl in the back who was giving you her best Glare o' Doomâ„¢ during the last half hour ([livejournal.com profile] emerald_skies)

P.S. - Not even the fact that you looked spookily like RL!Brad made me like you (and that's saying something).

Ugh, internets, I wish people would realize that having the initials "M.D." after your name doesn't automatically make you more important than everyone else. Because of this pompous ass and the million errands I had to run IN ADDITION to my usual clinic duties, I missed tonight's Glee, so now I owe y'all two reaction posts. Sorry, y'all :-\ At least I'll be able to post some more OZ reactions tomorrow (I'm about halfway through Season 3).

Ooh! Also, if anyone would be willing to write me a fic about the whole Heartbeats connection between Stark and ASkars, I'd be really pathetically, absurdly happy. It'd get its own entry (and the writer would get their own tag and possibly a shrine and definitely a new cheerleader). Think it over, writers on my flist? Gracias.

Edit to add: Anyone who hasn't already done so really needs to go check out [livejournal.com profile] penguinparity's glorious Ray/Walt fic (it features a really absurdly hot toppy!Walt and a spot-on Ray voice). It might melt your brain from the hotness, but it's totally worth it!

Howdy, internets. First, I bring a letter:

Dear batshit History professor,

I'm used to you being crazy. I'm used to you being unprofessional. I'm even used to you being a heinous bitch. So really, I shouldn't have been surprised when you blew off going to class today without sending out an email or posting something on your Facebook (it's the only reason I still have you on my flist, to be honest), but I was. How hard is it to send out a mass email with even a feeble bullshit excuse about why you won't be making it in? You've managed it before, so I know it's not beyond your admittedly limited social skills.

Counting down the days 'til I'm done with your class,
[livejournal.com profile] emerald_skies

I really shouldn't be so spitefully happy that I have an A in her class with virtually zero effort, but I am. HOW D'YOU LIKE ME NOW?

...moving on.

I also have a meme that I gacked from [livejournal.com profile] christinathena (no tagging to speak of on this one, but some of the questions are pretty entertaining):

100 Questions )

It's also a fantastic time waster if anyone is just sensationally bored.

Meanwhile, Apple is making me a sad panda because I want to make a ringtone out of something from the American Idiot soundtrack, but iTunes won't let me since my phone isn't an iPhone. Fuck you very much, Steve Jobs -- you too, Verizon *grumbles*

As for stuff coming up, expect more OZ ramblings and, once my next Netflix comes in the post, a review post of The Ruins (at the suggestion of [livejournal.com profile] their_darkness).

Cheers.

1) I seem to be mostly over my food poisoning (thank God). Now it's mostly just rehydrating and sorting out my electrolytes -- so it's me, several bottles of Ozarka, a bowl of chicken soup, and some Gatorade.

2) [livejournal.com profile] ohnotheydidnt is making me feel all tired and cranky and generally hateful of humanity -- again. You'd think I'd be used to it by now.

3) I'm in the middle of Season 2 of OZ and oh dear GOD I have some things to say about it:

- Adebisi needs to get hit by a bus (or twelve)
- Beecher growing a pair will never cease to delight me (damn, Reporter, you crazy)
- I have so much secondhand embarrassment for O'Reilly right now, it's ridiculous (he's falling for the Doctor and it's adorable but awkward and my hopeless romantic heart can't take it)
- WHY IS KELLER NOT HERE YET jfkdlashfgjhriglhfjidlshjgif I WANT MY ELLIOT STABLER GOD DAMN IT
- So much love for Poet <3
- I don't know why, but I'm really not feeling the littlest Schibetta as a character. He's not really doing anything except sitting there and being a giant stereotype.

4) All this OZ is making me fiend for more of that glorious Brad/Nate prison!AU in a pretty serious way

5) I'm putting Picking Up The Pieces on a short hiatus until I get done with finals. It's hard for me to keep the storyline straight (ha!) when my brain keeps interrupting with flashes of review shit (draw a visco-elastic diagram, explain the events leading up to World War II, etc. etc. etc). I'm not giving up on it though, so please bear with me on that. It'll be worth y'all's while, I promise :D

6) Le Boyfriend and I watched A Tale of Two Sisters last night -- sweet merciful Raptor!Jesus, that movie was so fucking weird. We had to go to Wikipedia to get an actual picture of the entire plot when we were done because there were large stretches of the movie where we had no idea what was going on.

Because this seems to be a mostly OZ-themed post, Reporter and his purdy mouth thank y'all for your time.

Cheers.

Edit to add: YAAAAAAAAAY! I has my Keller now! He's such a bamf *flails*
