Sacraments and Cigarettes by indigostohelit (on AO3) - St. Jimmy/Johnny, Johnny/Whatsername (Warning for character death) - Y'all, this is probably the best American Idiot fic I think I've ever read (if not, then easily one of the top 3). Reading it made me feel like I was back at the show again and I had to read it a couple of times to make sure I absorbed it all, it's just surreal.

Don't You Shake Alone by dsudis (on AO3) - Brad/Nate kid!fic - I don't normally go for kid!fic very often, but looleebelle gave it a glowing recommendation so I gave it a shot. Not only did it break my heart and bring embarrassing squeaky noises of glee out of me by turns, but it's also quite an apt depiction of PTSD. I read it all without taking a break, and I have a hunch that y'all will do the same thing.

So today is Veteran's Day, which is near and dear to me as a GK/AI(Tunny) fangirl, but also as someone with a number of IRL friends in the military; some of them have seen combat, some of them haven't, but every one of them would gladly risk their lives over and over to defend this country and so I'd be a pretty poor excuse for a friend not to honor that somehow.

In short, Happy Veteran's Day from someone who doesn't blame wars on the troops fighting them, but on the politicians who perpetuate them. Much love to all of said troops, friends of mine or otherwise.

Blargh. So I just got out of the first test in my Drugs & Behavior class and I'm not feeling super confident about how I did. Mostly because there were a gazillion questions about the central/peripheral/autonomic/somatic/sympathetic/parasympathetic nervous system and I've never been able to keep all that shit straight. I guess the world's lucky I don't want to be a neurologist...

Anyway, on an unrelated note, how are y'all? I used to talk to a bunch of you outside LJ but now it feels like you've all disappeared. I still love you guys and miss the hell out of you, I'm just internetless and getting my ass kicked by real life at the moment. Come back to meeee *grabby hands*

On the bright side, my muse may be coming back -- it stirred with the ghost of an idea for the GK/AI crossover while I was taking my test. The idea died before I could get out of the test and write it down, but that's still a good sign, right? Right?

P.S. - I have a collection of scratches and general lacerations on my hands/forearms on account of my cat, and I've been getting the weirdest fucking looks from people for them all day. I don't get it, do they think I'm cutting myself and just suck at being sneaky about it?

Ugh, I don't know if my brain chemistry is out of whack again or if my muse is just fucking off again or if staying up to chat all night with looleebelle is finally starting to break my brain or what, but I can't seem to be bothered to write anything. I want to write, I really do, but I opened up the Google Docs for EVERYTHING I have going. Nothing. Zip. Zero.

That part where he mentions dropping out of highschool sophomore year due to issues with depression? I was in my sophomore year when I dropped out of high school the first time, due to a nervous breakdown caused by a massive bipolar-related depressive episode.

In other words? Mind. Officially. Blown. Maybe there are/were more reasons than I originally guessed that I felt like I understood Will a lot when I saw the show. I feel sort of ridiculous for being so boggled by this, I'm just...struck by the freaky coincidence, I guess.

So, internets, I sort of got the GK/AI crossover up to 16,000 words last night. Parts I and IV are written in their entirety (yeah, I don't get my brain either), part II is partially written and completely storyboarded, part III is almost completely storyboarded, and I still have to start storyboarding part V.

*ahem* Anyway, I decided to post a little snippet of part IV as a cookie for y'all and a "thank you" for everyone who's been listening to me bitch about this fic for so long.

In other news, I went to the doctor today just to get my BC script updated again and wound up waiting for a solid fucking hour in a waiting room with multiple screaming children. This, given the migraine I've had since last night, meant I was pretty much in my own personal tenth circle of Hell.

On the bright side, I lost fifteen pounds since I last checked a month ago, and am now safely in the "normal" weight range for my height AND my blood pressure is normal (instead of being all fucked from my meds like it was before) \o/

Seriously? Again with this shit? For one thing, I thought Russian journals had their own server, so why take the whole site down? That shit's just sloppy. Being the raging internet addict that I am, I'm pretty much like this after four days without LJ:



Russia might find itself in a wide world of hurt if it pulls shit like this again *mutters* Ditto re: LJ if it doesn't give us free paid time to make up for this crap.

On a brighter note, talking to looleebelle about various American Idiot-related things has intensified my pathetic fangirlishness of it -- and of Michael Esper (probably because I'm suffering from Stark withdrawal *facepalm*) So, to get a bit of it out of my system, I decided to a picspam of a certain spiky haired Twitter addict.

I'm not exactly sure when he moved past adorable and into lickable in my head, but I'm pretty sure it's all looleebelle's fault.

Finally, I rented a few movies in the last couple of days and figured I'd post my (brief) thoughts about them:

- The Rite - It's pretty much The Exorcist with Anthony Hopkins where Max von Sydow should be, but it's still pretty decent -- pretty much just because of Anthony Hopkins. A few moments were legit unsettling, and it's definitely pretty entertaining if you're into the whole "crisis of faith" trope, my major problem with it was that the ending seemed kind of rushed (like the writers ran out of steam or something). 7/10 over all, worth renting if you're bored and looking for something to watch.

- Mirrors 2 (because Le Boyfriend and I enjoyed the original) - This one's more a study in cool CGI and camera tricks -- and watching people die in really fucking messy ways. The plot is kind of blah, but it does succeed in building enough emotion that Le Boyfriend and I actually cheered when one of the surprise antagonists got his comeuppance. Plus, like I said, the effects were really pretty cool for such a low budget movie. 7.5/10 overall, mostly worth watching if you're a sucker for effects and camera tricks like me.

- My Soul To Take - Okay, I confess, I'm a horror movie wonk, so the fact that Wes Craven directed this made me rent it anyway in spite of all the godawful reviews it got. It managed to pull a pretty nice last minute twist at the end (in terms of who the killer was) and there were a lot of classic Wes Craven style tropes, but there was SO much blood that eventually it stopped being gory and started being just plain ridiculous. My other problem (and Le Boyfriend's) was that it tried to do too many ideas at once, so the movie felt a bit cluttered as a result -- if someone had sat down with the writers and streamlined it somewhat, I think this could have been really, really good. 6.5/10, I'd only recommend this if you're a diehard Wes Craven fan or a horror movie wonk in general (don't go into this one expecting Oscar material or something).

...So those weren't exactly brief, but hopefully they were entertaining!

Oh lawd, internets, I was watching the debate yesterday on CNN and it left me...somewhat worried (those of you who know me on Facebook already know what I'm talking about).

First of all, in the context of talking about how he thinks border control is more important than what's going on in the Middle East, Ron Paul said that America should worry more about its own border instead of "the border between Iraq and Afghanistan" (verbatim quote).

That's a lovely thought (and a good sound bite), except for the part where Iraq and Afghanistan don't touch. Oops.



Maybe he means America should worry about protecting Iran?


As impressive of a gaffe as that was, it wasn't quite as funny as when Mitt Romney, in response to a question about how he would handle stationing the troops in the Middle East, said that he would gladly hand Afghanistan over to the Taliban military as soon as his commanders say it would be wise to do so.



Ooh, damn that's awkward.


Internets, these people want to run America (and a worryingly large number of Americans want to let them run the country). Things like this are why I despair of the state of the world so, in the spirit of the occasion and because the Tonys happened and I was feeling nostalgic, I'm going to let someone else express my opinion ( far better than I ever could )
