Howdy doo, internets, just dropping in to give a brief update and assure y'all I'm still alive (the hiatus is otherwise still in effect until after my exams are over on Wednesday).

Things I've done in the past (almost) week:

1) Saw Hugo with Le Boyfriend. To copy my brief review from Facebook:

"Just got back from seeing Hugo w/ le boyfriend. Visually stunning, pretty entertaining (if a bit slow-paced) story, all-around enjoyable for movie lovers and those of us with vivid imaginations or especially active inner children. 8/10, definitely worth seeing."

2) Played literally hours of Angry Birds (it doesn't help that a gazillion new levels have been released -- I'm basically doomed to flunk out of university at this point).

3) Lined up a job for next semester (more tutoring stories!)

4) Played with my kitten, also for literally hours

5) Proofread other people's fic (at an inexcusably slow pace -- sorry, y'all)


Things I haven't done:

1) Study in a meaningful way for my finals (first one is tomorrow)

2) Finish my half-completed Strength & Conditioning term paper (due Wednesday)

3) Order my textbooks for next term

4) Call my shrink to sort out this bipolarcoaster mess


...in short, fuck all this "being a responsible adult" bullshit.

Ugh, I don't know if my brain chemistry is out of whack again or if my muse is just fucking off again or if staying up to chat all night with looleebelle is finally starting to break my brain or what, but I can't seem to be bothered to write anything. I want to write, I really do, but I opened up the Google Docs for EVERYTHING I have going. Nothing. Zip. Zero.

That part where he mentions dropping out of highschool sophomore year due to issues with depression? I was in my sophomore year when I dropped out of high school the first time, due to a nervous breakdown caused by a massive bipolar-related depressive episode.

In other words? Mind. Officially. Blown. Maybe there are/were more reasons than I originally guessed that I felt like I understood Will a lot when I saw the show. I feel sort of ridiculous for being so boggled by this, I'm just...struck by the freaky coincidence, I guess.

Ha! Appropriately timed question is both appropriate and timely. I'll tackle this one in list form:

1) My Tunny/Will/Extraordinary Girl costume fic (which is now over 15,000 almost exactly 19,000 words)

2) My Generation Kill/American Idiot crossover

3) My Starsgard hurt/comfort piece (we'll pretend someone remembers that...)

4) mcl4r3n's and my Starsgard vampire!AU (which should be finished sometime in August once she gets back from a business trip and life settles back down again).

ETA: 5) Apparently I'm also going to be writing a GK/O Brother, Where Art Thou crossover with sgrios. I'm as surprised as y'all are, honestly.

...so yeah, I'm gonna be writing fic pretty much indefinitely. Yay?

Not quite as stupefyingly adorable as my little tortoiseshell fuzzball, but still (hopefully) pretty amusing and cute anyway.

THING THE SECOND - Day Twenty-Four: How many betas do you like to use to make sure there aren't any major flaws in your fic? Do you have a Beta horror story or dream story?

Y'know, it's the damnedest thing, I used to be super compulsive about getting a beta for EVERY SINGLE ASPECT OF EVERY SINGLE THING I wrote (grammar/punctuation, flow, the works), but after a while I stopped doing it beyond occasionally finding someone to pester into making sure the story reads okay without sounding too odd in random places. I'm wildly insecure and neurotic about how my writing reads to other people, but I somehow still managed to gain enough confidence in myself to stop relying on betas. (With that in mind, one can only imagine how neurotic I used to be about writing...). I don't really have any notable horror OR dream stories about them though; I think I lucked out in that every person who's ever betaed for me turned out to be at least reasonable if not actively nice (without going above and beyond the call).

On the other hand, if one counts checking to make sure the story reads okay as beta work, then I have to say that jean_iris rocks for everything she's done to help with my Starsgard fics, and pau494 pretty much deserves a medal for everything she's done to help my Idiot fics along (including the GK/AI crossover).

THING THE THIRD - So I have a question for the Twits Twitter users among you, internets: I noticed (in the course of contemplating signing up) that Twitter wants your full name. Is there a way to keep this from displaying on your profile/information page where other people can see it? Do you get to choose a username later? I've been getting increasingly interested in acquiring a Twitter, but if it showed my full name then I would have to control so much of what I say (for weirdness, mostly) that there wouldn't really be any point. Halp?

Soooo yeah, Le Boyfriend and I saw Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 together at midnight last night (er...this morning). It was pretty intense, honestly, and there was the usual requisite couple of people who showed up in interesting costumes, including a guy in the row in front of us who was in PERFECT Voldemort costume (right down to a bald cap glued against his skin) and a girl waiting to claim her tickets in a full-body Snitch outfit (gold unitard, wings, the works).

ANYWAY, I promised a reaction post, so here we go ( *cracks knuckles* )

This is a fairly skeletal reaction post, I'll probably add more things as they occur to me so feel free to check back from time to time or, if anyone feels so inclined, share your own noteworthy moments!

P.S. - This Tunny/Will/EG fic I've been working on is exactly 13,000 words now and I still have a lot I want to add. It's official, I'm physically incapable of writing short fic. I'm thinking of splitting it into two parts and posting the first bit within the next couple of days, just to give myself some incentive to finish the damn thing and to give y'all a little something for listening to me bitch and moan about this for so long.

Is anyone else seriously craving a Generation Kill community re-watch? I can't possibly be the only one. I'd do it myself, but I don't want to step on abrokencompass's toes since that's sort of her thing (at least, it is in my head). Idk, maybe something's already in the works and I just don't know it.

Anyway, in random news, I discovered today that Twitter has its own Twitter account. I know it's probably to post admin messages and stuff like that, but something about the meta of it still made me crack up for a good five minutes at least.

Day Sixteen: Summaries – Do you like them or hate them? How do you come up with them, if you use them?

Depends on my mood, really. Sometimes I like them and see them as an interesting thought exercise (how to convey what's going on in the story without giving everything away), and sometimes they just annoy the bejeezus out of me when I can't seem to get them to sound right. As for how I come up with them, I came across my usual, "In which ______" format from some fantasy book I read long ago that titled its chapters that way, and then I throw in some bad puns and/or wordplay to cover the rest. For instance, when I was doing the summaries in Le Batfic I wound up making completely obvious puns about decks of cards when the Joker was involved the chapter. Sort of silly, but it's better than some summaries I've seen that tell you precisely squat about the fic itself.
