Oof, sometimes I really suck at updating this thing. Maybe I need to find myself another thirty-day writing meme.

Just dropping in mostly to relay a hilarious GK fangirl moment I had yesterday: Le Boyfriend's mother's birthday was yesterday, so we went out with his family to this Brazillian steakhouse (complete with Portuguese name and words on the menu). I may or may not have spent embarrassing portions of the night quoting Baptista lines to myself....*ahem*

Anyway, have a couple of my favorite shipping related gifs. Get your slash goggles on tight, folks )

Random post is random, but at least it serves to prove I'm alive. How are y'all?

So, I finally succeeded in unfucking my Twitter -- in other words, I can now follow y'all back and whatnot. I basically feel like this right now:

Photobucket

That being said, feel free to follow me (just tell me who you are so I don't have a paranoid freak out) and/or rec me various pages to follow (since the "People to follow" thing keeps giving me an error page). May as well fully embrace the addict lifestyle, yeah?

Cheers.

Internets, do any of you ever have one of those moments where recognizing someone in a movie makes you feel like a gigantic nerd?

Well, I had one of those just now...(with screen caps!) )

Okay, 'fess up, how many of you recognized him from the very first screen cap? Go on, I won't judge, I've had far too many WAY fangirlier moments than this to be able to judge without sounding like a total hypocrite.

The moral of this post? FANDOM IS EVERYWHERE, resistance is futile.

Lastly, more meme!

Day Twenty-Six: What is the oddest (or funnest) thing you've had to research for a fic?

That would be a tie between transfemoral prosthetic legs and exactly how much force it takes to crush a human windpipe (alongside how much force a mostly average adult male can generate in a punch). Both topics were being researched for the same fic, incidentally XD

And now, back to watching movies in the middle of the night because I can't make my brain shut up. Ta!

Soooo yeah, Le Boyfriend and I saw Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 together at midnight last night (er...this morning). It was pretty intense, honestly, and there was the usual requisite couple of people who showed up in interesting costumes, including a guy in the row in front of us who was in PERFECT Voldemort costume (right down to a bald cap glued against his skin) and a girl waiting to claim her tickets in a full-body Snitch outfit (gold unitard, wings, the works).

ANYWAY, I promised a reaction post, so here we go *cracks knuckles* )

This is a fairly skeletal reaction post, I'll probably add more things as they occur to me so feel free to check back from time to time or, if anyone feels so inclined, share your own noteworthy moments!

Finally, for anyone that's still reading this post by this point, here's the next part of the thirty day writing meme:

Day Twenty-Two: Have you ever participated in a fest or a Big Bang? If so, write about your favorite experience in relation to one. If not, are there any you've thought about doing? And if not, why not?

Um...nope. I'd like to, for sure, but I never seem to have a substantial plot bunny at the time that these things go down. Then there's also the fact that I'm horribly insecure about my shorter works (if you can call them that) even at the best of times, and also the lingering paranoia that my muse would crap out on me THE MOMENT I finished signing up for the fucking thing. Like I said in some post before; my neuroses, they are many.

T-minus three hours until Le Boyfriend and I head out to claim our place in line for the midnight DH Pt. 2 screening.

Internets, I lied, I AM NOT READY FOR THIS SHIT.

Photobucket

Somebody hold me...

I probably won't put up a review/reaction post until after Chemistry lab tomorrow but, on the bright side, I'll probably be so zombified that the post itself will be all kinds of capslocky and hilarious. Mmmm, tasty silver lining.

That being said, meme!

Day Twenty-One: Have you ever written a sequel to a fic you wrote, and if so, why, and if not, how do you feel about sequels?

I have yet to actually write a sequel for any fics I've worked on (either alone or in a collaborative capacity), not because I don't like them but just because I haven't really had any substantial ideas for such things. I've had people ask for a sequel to the Batfic, for example, and the only thing that's stopped me from running the idea by [livejournal.com profile] mcl4r3n is the fact that I have absolutely no idea what we would put in it. Plus I'm not sure we could ever possibly top Le Batfic, but that's more rampant insecurity than anything else.

P.S. - I actually did a little dance of glee when I conquered a particularly challenging section of my Chemistry work. I think this means I need a life.

Random philosophical questions that have crossed my mind recently:

1) Okay, so we know that when a (closeted) gay guy goes out with a woman to try to look extra heterosexual, that woman is called a beard. What's the male equivalent? (Like, if a closeted gay woman goes out with a man to look extra straight). Is there a name for that?

2) When did Bon Iver suddenly become such a huge deal? I'd never even heard of them except for a tangential mention in some Stark interview (shut up, I know I'm a sad, pathetic fangirl for remembering that) and suddenly they're EVERYWHERE. Obviously, the hipsters are taking over.

3) Why is Charlie Sheen still a thing? Did he do something extra wacky and insane recently that I missed?

In other news, [livejournal.com profile] generation_kill hosted a themed recs post for crossovers and someone rec'ed the batfic!

Photobucket

This makes me absurdly happy, moreso than it probably should. Remember that I have a tiny, fragile ego when it comes to any sort of fanfic that I do anything for (either on my own or in a collaborative capacity), so people rec'ing anything I worked on sort of makes my week.

Finally, I'm composing a list of movies I need/want to see (and possibly review) this summer. So far, I've got...

Thor
Priest
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2
Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides
Hanna
Scream 4 (am going to have to Redbox/Netflix/pirate this, evidently)
X-Men: First Class (it's probably going to be hilariously awful, but I cannot resist the sexy siren song of James McAvoy)
Green Lantern (mostly because Le Boyfriend is going to drag me to see it whether I like it or not)
Captain America: The First Avenger (see above)
Don't Be Afraid of the Dark

Not to mention the other movie review posts I have that I'm supposed to do at some point (like 2012 *sigh*). Any other suggestions? Between my junior physical therapist duties and my summer classes, I'm going to be really, spectacularly bored this summer, so any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

And now back to desperately trying to unfuck my creative muse and waiting pathetically for January so The 2-2 can start and I can have an excuse to fangirl on a weekly basis. Ta!

So, evidently today is indeed Stark's last day on American Idiot (that's what I've been told, anyway, for lack of an official announcement). I'm having a difficult time letting go of this awesome, compelling, powerful role he did that he just...won't be doing anymore, weird as that is to imagine. So, with that in mind, I decided to do some spammage to commemorate the occasion.

So, today's the big day that American Idiot as I(/we) know and love it is really, really starting to...splinter? Dissolve? Idk, some sort of unpleasant change.

Anyway, because I have a bunch of feelings about the show (SO MANY FEELINGS), I wrote an open letter of sorts to vent. Try not to mock me too much for it, I know I'm a huge sap *headscreen*

Trite, maudlin open letter is both trite and maudlin (but at least decently heartfelt) )

I actually got all choked up when I was writing that.

Good lord, self, get a grip.

If anyone needs me I'll be off having a good cry in the corner (and I don't mean perfect crystalline Jensen Ackles tears, oh no, I'm talking full on red and blotchy "Oh God what is that get it away from me" sobbing). Anyone else who's feeling especially mopey about this is welcome to join me.

Let me tell you, internets, 2010 has been an interesting year now that I think about it in hindsight.

I joined the most incredible, friendly, inclusive, talented, and generally all-around awesome fandom I've ever seen (Ilu, fellow Generation Kill fangirls)

I started really fangirling for Stark and actually met him in the span of this year -- he was the first famous person I ever met who wasn't a politician.

I hit a milestone birthday (and still feel 18 in my head in spite of it).

I (co)wrote the longest piece of fanfiction I've ever done anything for in all 7 years of fandom (Ilu [livejournal.com profile] mcl4r3n)

I met some of you irl for the first time in many, many years of LJing. Now I know why others of you talk about how awesome it is to meet each other :D

Plus a whole bunch of other things. And most of you who read this thing on a semi-regular basis were right there with me for it. I just wanna say before this year winds to a close (pretend some of y'all aren't in timezones where it's next year already) that I love every single one of you and thank you for not laughing me and my ramblings off the internet. I'd be lost without y'all, but you know this already <3

And so, while I get all the coding for my remaining NYC pictures sorted out, I propose a NYE dance party!

At some point, there will be a break to bust out some champagne and count the celebratory gunshots. Yeeha?

HOLY SHIT.

HOLY SHIT.

MY COUSIN* KNOWS STARK MOTHERFUCKING SANDS. LIKE, ACTUALLY KNOWS HIM.

How I found this out:

I was chatting with her at Christmas dinner (part 2) and she asked me about the things I did in New York. So I was telling her about American Idiot...

Awesomest cousin ever: Oh, I have a friend from USC who's in that.
Me: ...you don't say. Who?
ACE: His name is Stark, Stark Sands
My brain/face/everything: SYSTEM MOTHERFUCKING FAILURE.
Photobucket

So I explained how I'd been there to see him and actually met him and after the usual "He's cute, isn't he? *knowing grin*", she explained that he'd been two years ahead of her and lived in the frat house two houses down from her sorority (or something like that, I was freaking out enough by this point that I might have crossed a wire somewhere). I got the impression that they still talk from time to time.

I love this cousin anyway because she's always a blast to talk to, but y'all can bet there will be some serious grilling about this in the future.

HOLYSHITHOLYSHITHOLYSHITHOLYSHITHOLYSHIT

Ahem. I need to calm down and start coming up with non-flaily capslocky things to ask her about what he is/was like. God, I don't even know where to start (I'm still in the "flaily hands and high-pitched noises" stage). WHAT DO I DO WITH THIS INFORMATION HOLYCRAP.

emerald_skies: (Default)
Howdy doo, my fellow fangirls, I have a few things to talk about tonight:

1) This photo (for the all of 3 fangirls who probably haven't seen it yet) )

2) So, since the New York trip is happening in like two weeks and more than a few of you expressed an interest in meeting up, I was thinking we should probably hammer out some details where that's concerned.

Here's the problem though; I suck at this sort of thing. I'm so horribly disorganized it's kind of pathetic actually. Basically, what I'm getting at is....help? *pleading expression* I don't even know where to start.

3) Another testing the waters idea based on a discussion we were having in [livejournal.com profile] generation_kill (two-part question):

- Would any fangirls 'round these parts be interested in doing a Die Mommie Die watch along post?

- If so, which would be a better place to host it: [livejournal.com profile] generation_kill or [livejournal.com profile] stark_sands?

Let me know in the comments!

In the mean time, I'm gonna tackle the backlog of crap I said I'd do for this journal starting tomorrow (was taking a break last night and today because this week has been hard work). Progress will resume on Le Batfic once [livejournal.com profile] mcl4r3n's real life settles back down (which should be in a day or two-ish).

That's it for now. How are y'all? I'm feeling chatty :D

Internets, last night I discovered confirmation that my brain is a deeply scary place that runs on sugar/caffeine and porn. Why, you ask?

Because last night I had a dream in which the GK boys were dancing to this:

Ice Cream Truck - Cazwell (cut due to being semi-NSFW and to prevent autoplay) )

The dream was basically a shot-for-shot recreation of that video but with the GK boys instead. Yeah. That's how my unconscious rolls.

In completely unrelated news, does anyone 'round these parts watch Friday Night Lights? I got hooked on that recently and came to two important conclusions (after just starting Season 2):

1) Matt Saracen (as a character) is too adorable for words.

2) I would do awful, raunchy things to Tim Riggins. Even though Taylor Kitsch obviously re-used his (failtastic) Texan accent from this for X-Men Origins: Wolverine

That is all (for now). In the spirit of this ~fabulous~ post, Lance thanks you for your time:

Howdy doo, internets! Just popping in once again to drop off some Batfic for y'all while I work on a more substantial reaction post...thingy. So far, Poindexter (that would be my computer) is cooperating -- let's hope it lasts until I can finish the damn reactions this time. Anyway, BATFIC!

Reason #5374894 why I hate my family sometimes it can be problematic when your fannish interests mix with real life:

Because it can lead to things like this coming up at Thanksgiving dinner in front of your boyfriend and your whole extended family (loud enough for all of them to hear) -

"Hey [livejournal.com profile] emerald_skies, maybe if you tell Stark it's your birthday when you ask him for his autograph he'll offer to take you out to dinner or something."

Title: Celer, Silens, Mortalis (Part 11b)
Authors: [livejournal.com profile] emerald_skies and [livejournal.com profile] mcl4r3n
Summary: In which Nate has to remind Brad that underestimating him is a really bad idea and Brad learns that there can be benefits to admitting one's mistakes.

When Brad originally thought of it, having Nate train with him and Rudy seemed like a great idea... )

I don't have a preview ready this time because this part stops where we stopped so far and we're still deciding what exactly will happen next (I may just save the preview for when I have the start of a next scene handy). Dear reddish-haired hipster guy sitting outside my first class,

I really am sorry for the strangled "OhmyGod" and how I spazzed out and dropped my iPod when you walked by me and sat down. It's nothing against you, really -- it's actually sort of a compliment -- your outfit/haircut just looked kinda familiar and I was sort of zoned out before that and...yeah. Nice shirt, by the way, and it's nice to know I'm not the only one who thinks fedoras are cool.

Anyway, [livejournal.com profile] mcl4r3n and I are still in the middle of the latest batfic scene (yeah, it's still not done, blame real life getting all crazy and shit) so I can't exactly post the whole enchilada, but would a snippet/preview tide y'all over? Or would it just be overly frustrating? Let me know your thoughts in the comments.

In the mean time, I highly encourage anyone who hasn't already to go check out [livejournal.com profile] pjvilar's frankly glorious squatterpunk!AU big bang. It's so lush and beautiful and sad and raw and just...argh...read it! You won't regret it, I promise.

1) Because it's been about a million years since my last ASkars post:

2) Glee and Supernatural reaction posts are in progress, but might still be a while because I'm doing about five gazillion other things at the same time. Apologies for the wait.

3) More Bat!fic is also coming very soon. Including things that bumped its overall rating into the R/NC-17 range. Stay tuned :D

I'll also probably compile a list of big bang recs at some point soon, once I get a chance to actually read them /o\

So, internets, I come bearing bad news and good news.

The bad news (for Stark fangirls):

HBO isn't picking up The Miraculous Year. Which, long story short, means Stark isn't coming back to T.V. any time soon.

Photobucket

Yeah, I know :-\

The good news (for GKers and fans of the fic I post here alike):

More batfic!

Title: Celer, Silens, Mortalis (Part 8)
Authors: [livejournal.com profile] mcl4r3n and [livejournal.com profile] emerald_skies
Summary: In which Nate learns there's more to Brad Colbert than anyone might ever guess, Ray stumbles across something important (twice), and Brad finally opens up when the chips come down.

For what feels like the millionth fucking time that evening, Brad adjusts his god-damned bowtie... )

As usual, comments are both loved and encouraged. Hope y'all like it :)
