Okay, so, can we please skip how hilariously awful I am at updating and talk about how the GK boys (sans ASkars *sadface*) went to see Stark in Kinky Boots and generally bro around just like old times? God, I miss them and I miss how fandom was before it got all quiet around here and just...ARGH...feelings.

In real life news, I got into physical therapy assistant school! (Which I'll be using to pay for a Master's degree later and so on). I start in August and it's going to be a full time program so there's really no point in me looking for a full-time job anymore, so that's been a big load off of my otherwise towering mountain of anxiety about the general state of my life. Also I'm pretty sure part of why this feels so good is because I've spent basically my whole life being a student and I feel like I'm not very good at being anything else, but still, yay for not failing at life!

P.S. - God damn it, Stark looks like he's 18 again, HOW IS LIFE THIS GODDAMN UNFAIR?

P.P.S. - IS ANYONE ELSE AS EXCITED AS I AM ABOUT THE GK REWATCH? :D

Did anyone else watch the Tony awards last night? Because I did and on the whole it was pretty good and Kinky Boots won a gazillion things just like I wanted it to. Alas, Stark didn't win (the nomination is still nice, though), but Billy Porter's acceptance speech melted my heart into a little puddle of feelings so I wasn't even mad really. Plus Stark winked at the camera. No joke.

So, for those who haven't heard, Stark is going to the Tonys again because Kinky Boots is up for a gazillion awards (deservedly so, from the sound of it) and he himself is one of them (Best Actor in a Leading Role). Oh God, I hope he wins or, at the very least, that Kinky Boots gets Best Musical so that Bring It On: The Musical (oh god why is this even a thing) doesn't get it.

But I mostly want Stark to win because OH MY GOD IMAGINE THE STUPIDLY ADORABLE SPEECH. IMAGINE IT. IT MIGHT EVEN INVOLVE THIS LOOK:

P.P.S. - ...Why can't I stop looking at that picture they have of him?

EDIT: Awwww, he was worried people would be put off by Tunny? I loved the shit out of Tunny (and still do, even). Bless his stupidly adorable heart.

YOU GUYS, YOU GUYS, HOLY SHIT YOU GUYS, AN OFFICIAL/LEGIT VIDEO OF AMERICAN IDIOT WITH THE ORIGINAL BROADWAY CAST IS COMING!!!!!!!

The only thing about this that falls short of my reaction is a high pitched noise I made that I'm pretty sure only dogs could hear

Also Stark is doing things again (for those who didn't know) )

Clearly the universe loves me and wants me to be happy, at least for the moment.

P.S. - Am I the only one who thinks Stark's obvious Gomer Pyle impression came out sounding a little like Kermit the Frog instead? And did this leave anyone else with a burning desire to hear him sing It Ain't Easy Being Green? ...just me? Alrighty then.

So I came home from work today to find that [livejournal.com profile] pjvilar had posted this lovely, lovely fabulousness )

Two things:

1) The amount of gleeful cackling and dopey grinning this video got out of me was the perfect way to unwind from a pretty hectic work week
2) I'm not sure how I feel about the fact that Stark looks better in makeup than I do AND dances better in heels than I do. Seriously though, how is he even real?

Bonus third thing:

Because words just can't capture how magical this is and how many of my possessions I'm considering selling to go see it

So many, many thanks to [livejournal.com profile] pjvilar (and indirectly [livejournal.com profile] eiirene) for making my week and generally being all around awesome. Has anyone made gifs from this yet?

Internets, you wanna know something kind of awesome about growing up on the periphery of the non-douchey flavor of obscenely rich people (who, in my case, happen to be my godparents)? When said godparents take you/the family out to dinner at an obnoxiously-trendy-but-still-really-fucking-tasty Indian restaurant and ply you with awesome wine (godfather geeks out about it like normal nerds geek out about comic books) and equally awesome coffee (godfather's company supplies the restaurant).

I'm not even joking about the restaurant though, I've never seen so many fucking douchey twentysomething hipsters in my life -- there was a 40 minute wait because of them. BUT ENOUGH ABOUT THAT.

During yet another bout of insomnia, I decided to go on a Jesse Eisenberg kick and watched Rio (that animated parrot movie, for those keeping score at home) and yes, I finally caved and watched The Social Network. Rio was so fucking adorable and funny and pretty much left me like this:

Photobucket

While my reaction to TSN can be summed up thusly:

Photobucket

Y'all, the last time I shipped anything this hard was when I walked out of X-Men: First Class. Obviously I have a crippling weakness for geek love.

So, in the interest of amusing myself on the trip back to university-land this afternoon, I have a two-pronged request:

1) Bring me your favorite TSN fic -- bonus points if it involves a) The Bathroom Scene, b) Wardo scaring Sean off of Mark (hate sex is a plus here), or c) Some combination thereof
2) Spam me with ALL THE JESSE PICS. Good lord, that boy is so disgustingly adorable.

And while I realize this last aside might be a bit much, I'd appreciate a relative minimum of mockery about finally joining the dark side or whatever. I know I'm late, I just got sidetracked and was also initially despairing for mankind as a whole over the fact that Facebook got its own movie. I'M ONLY HUMAN *sob*

P.P.S. - Random thought of the day: Jfc, how fucking surreal would it be to get a friend request from Mark Zuckerberg?

Howdy, all! Have a shipping meme I found whilst going through my flist.

Shipping meme (ganked from [livejournal.com profile] faithharkness)

1. Think of up to 20 ships you support.
2. List them using descriptions of the characters involved rather than their names.
3. Have your f-list guess as many of the ships as they can.
4. Hints will be given if asked in the comments.

I couldn't manage 20, but these 8 should do. Read carefully! )

These are one ship from each fandom I've ever really liked so far, so there aren't, for example, two Glee ships or anything like that. My hints will probably just be what fandoms they are, but we'll see what y'all come up with to ask (if necessary).

Also, it's been brought to my attention (by an especially thoughtful flistie) that Stark's been a busy boy...

"“Kinky Boots,” a musical based on the 2005 British film, is aiming for Broadway next season with a cast that includes Stark Sands (“American Idiot”) and Billy Porter (the Off Broadway revival of “Angels in America”). It would be the Broadway debut of the pop musician Cyndi Lauper as a composer and lyricist; the book is by Harvey Fierstein (“La Cage aux Folles,” “Newsies”) and the director and choreographer is Jerry Mitchell (“Legally Blonde”)."

--From the NYT's Theater pages.

Another flistie informed me that this is going to involve him dressing in drag. Again. Allow me to express my reaction to this in gif form since I don't really have the words to cover it:

Cut to spare flist formatting )

HE REALLY IS THE PRETTIEST PRINCESS, Y'ALL. IF SOMEONE DOESN'T COME UP WITH SOME AMAZING PICS OF THIS SHIT, I'M GONNA BE MIGHTILY DISAPPOINT IN THE LOT OF YOU.

Anyway, that's all I've got for now (except my review post of The Devil Inside), so have a silly gif to thank you for your time

Internets, do any of you ever have times in life where RL is kicking your ass so hard that you start to feel like you're losing your ability to fangirl(/boy)? Well, I've sorta been feeling that way lately, which culminated in last night; as I was studying for my test today, I found myself trying to remember if Stark's birthday (and thus my usual birthday post) had passed without me noticing ("I know it's in September, but when...")

Welp, funnily enough, it's today! Guess I haven't lost my fangirl mojo after all :D As such, have a brief celebratory pic/gif-spam (like I need an excuse, lol)

P.S. - I saw Don't Be Afraid of the Dark avec Le Boyfriend last night. Ugh, I don't know if my brain chemistry is out of whack again or if my muse is just fucking off again or if staying up to chat all night with [livejournal.com profile] looleebelle is finally starting to break my brain or what, but I can't seem to be bothered to write anything. I want to write, I really do, but I opened up the Google Docs for EVERYTHING I have going. Nothing. Zip. Zero.

Anyway, I've already been having an odd sort of day as it is, starting by watching this video and paying closer attention to what he's saying this time (shutupIcanfeelyourjudgment):

Yes, it's Michael Esper again )

That part where he mentions dropping out of highschool sophomore year due to issues with depression? I was in my sophomore year when I dropped out of high school the first time, due to a nervous breakdown caused by a massive bipolar-related depressive episode.

In other words? Mind. Officially. Blown. Maybe there are/were more reasons than I originally guessed that I felt like I understood Will a lot when I saw the show. I feel sort of ridiculous for being so boggled by this, I'm just...struck by the freaky coincidence, I guess.

Finally, have a meme I gacked from [livejournal.com profile] lemniciate:

The Hypothetical AU Meme: Take any one of the fandoms you know I write in (or think I should), and give me a type of AU (space opera AU, pirate AU, superhero AU, Ancient Rome, etc). I will then explain what story from your chosen fandom I would write for your chosen type of AU.

By Raptor Jesus, it seems it really WAS the Russians coming after LJ again.

Seriously? Again with this shit? For one thing, I thought Russian journals had their own server, so why take the whole site down? That shit's just sloppy. Being the raging internet addict that I am, I'm pretty much like this after four days without LJ:

Photobucket

Russia might find itself in a wide world of hurt if it pulls shit like this again *mutters* Ditto re: LJ if it doesn't give us free paid time to make up for this crap.

On a brighter note, talking to [livejournal.com profile] looleebelle about various American Idiot-related things has intensified my pathetic fangirlishness of it -- and of Michael Esper (probably because I'm suffering from Stark withdrawal *facepalm*) So, to get a bit of it out of my system, I decided to a picspam of a certain spiky haired Twitter addict.

'Take away the sensation inside...' )

I'm not exactly sure when he moved past adorable and into lickable in my head, but I'm pretty sure it's all [livejournal.com profile] looleebelle's fault.

Finally, I rented a few movies in the last couple of days and figured I'd post my (brief) thoughts about them:

- The Rite - It's pretty much The Exorcist with Anthony Hopkins where Max von Sydow should be, but it's still pretty decent -- pretty much just because of Anthony Hopkins. A few moments were legit unsettling, and it's definitely pretty entertaining if you're into the whole "crisis of faith" trope, my major problem with it was that the ending seemed kind of rushed (like the writers ran out of steam or something). 7/10 over all, worth renting if you're bored and looking for something to watch.

- Mirrors 2 (because Le Boyfriend and I enjoyed the original) - This one's more a study in cool CGI and camera tricks -- and watching people die in really fucking messy ways. The plot is kind of blah, but it does succeed in building enough emotion that Le Boyfriend and I actually cheered when one of the surprise antagonists got his comeuppance. Plus, like I said, the effects were really pretty cool for such a low budget movie. 7.5/10 overall, mostly worth watching if you're a sucker for effects and camera tricks like me.

- My Soul To Take - Okay, I confess, I'm a horror movie wonk, so the fact that Wes Craven directed this made me rent it anyway in spite of all the godawful reviews it got. It managed to pull a pretty nice last minute twist at the end (in terms of who the killer was) and there were a lot of classic Wes Craven style tropes, but there was SO much blood that eventually it stopped being gory and started being just plain ridiculous. My other problem (and Le Boyfriend's) was that it tried to do too many ideas at once, so the movie felt a bit cluttered as a result -- if someone had sat down with the writers and streamlined it somewhat, I think this could have been really, really good. 6.5/10, I'd only recommend this if you're a diehard Wes Craven fan or a horror movie wonk in general (don't go into this one expecting Oscar material or something).

...So those weren't exactly brief, but hopefully they were entertaining!

Soooo yeah, Le Boyfriend and I saw Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 together at midnight last night (er...this morning). It was pretty intense, honestly, and there was the usual requisite couple of people who showed up in interesting costumes, including a guy in the row in front of us who was in PERFECT Voldemort costume (right down to a bald cap glued against his skin) and a girl waiting to claim her tickets in a full-body Snitch outfit (gold unitard, wings, the works).

ANYWAY, I promised a reaction post, so here we go *cracks knuckles* )

This is a fairly skeletal reaction post, I'll probably add more things as they occur to me so feel free to check back from time to time or, if anyone feels so inclined, share your own noteworthy moments!

Finally, for anyone that's still reading this post by this point, here's the next part of the thirty day writing meme:

Day Twenty-Two: Have you ever participated in a fest or a Big Bang? If so, write about your favorite experience in relation to one. If not, are there any you've thought about doing? And if not, why not?

Um...nope. I'd like to, for sure, but I never seem to have a substantial plot bunny at the time that these things go down. Then there's also the fact that I'm horribly insecure about my shorter works (if you can call them that) even at the best of times, and also the lingering paranoia that my muse would crap out on me THE MOMENT I finished signing up for the fucking thing. Like I said in some post before; my neuroses, they are many.

Day Sixteen: Summaries – Do you like them or hate them? How do you come up with them, if you use them?

Depends on my mood, really. Sometimes I like them and see them as an interesting thought exercise (how to convey what's going on in the story without giving everything away), and sometimes they just annoy the bejeezus out of me when I can't seem to get them to sound right. As for how I come up with them, I came across my usual, "In which ______" format from some fantasy book I read long ago that titled its chapters that way, and then I throw in some bad puns and/or wordplay to cover the rest. For instance, when I was doing the summaries in Le Batfic I wound up making completely obvious puns about decks of cards when the Joker was involved the chapter. Sort of silly, but it's better than some summaries I've seen that tell you precisely squat about the fic itself.
