Internets, I've been in a pretty shitty mood today.

1) I had to stay up until 3 a.m. working on a stupid fucking lab report and then I was almost late for lab this morning anyway because Le Boyfriend and I both slept through the alarm (even though Le Boyfriend claims to be a light sleeper).

Said lab was designed to give us our body compositions by determining our body fat percentages. I could have saved all parties involved the trouble by telling them that my body composition is "too fucking fat", but no, they had to go into the gory numerical details.

2) I had the brilliant luck of being in the right place at the wrong fucking time and wound up dealing with a frat asshole chatting me up outside my next class. Basically, he decided it was my fault that he couldn't take a hint and that I wasn't dazzled enough by his frat pin and his ~sparkling~ personality to forget about Le Boyfriend. Le Boyfriend thinks my conversation with the guy was pretty funny and not overreacting by any stretch, but I wasn't proud of myself for losing my temper over something so fucking stupid. Straw that broke the camel's back, I guess.

3) I found out last night about some potentially problematic aspects of my upcoming airport experience when Le Boyfriend and I go to New York. Fucking awesome. (Before anyone asks what rock I must be living under, I don't fly often enough to pay attention to TSA updates and whatnot -- the last significant development I was aware of was the whole really small liquid containers in carryon bags thing)

-

I shake my head at the world today.
Photobucket

4) Speaking of the New York trip, two things:

- I encourage anyone who has a specific question they'd like me to try to ask Stark when I meet him to post their questions in the comments. I'll be making a poll of them later and will try to ask him the most popular one.

- Would any flisters who live or will be vacationing in the NYC area between 12/17-12/21 be interested in meeting up?

[Poll #1646021]

Finally, happy birthday wishes to [livejournal.com profile] katherine_lupin (belated, I know, but the love is still there) and [livejournal.com profile] vaihtojalka. Please continue being awesome, y'all <3

Oh internets, I am so ragingly, boilingly angry at so many things today it's actually kind of impressive.

First of all, my fucking above!neighbors are blaring their music (as you do) WITH THEIR WINDOWS OPEN.

Photobucket

The only reason I'm not calling the fucking cops as we speak is because it's been a bad couple of days in brain chemistry land and I want to consult Le Boyfriend to make sure I'm not overreacting before I do anything rash.

Second of all, I've seen some appallingly ignorant, asshole-ish, straight-up infuriating comments about those gay kids who killed themselves, Spirit Day in their honor, and so on.

Cut because this might get rather long, ranty, incoherent, and will probably feature some spectacularly bad language )

I hope that made at least some sort of sense, I've been pretty emotional for the last couple of days and it probably bled over into what I was saying. I apologize in advance if I accidentally insulted anyone due to poor phrasing. Point it out to me if so and I'll correct it ASAP -- I checked it over as carefully as I could but I could have conceivably missed something.

Sorry about the srs bznss post, folks, I just had a lot of proverbial poison I needed to bleed out of my system. See the previous post for something a bit more light-hearted (such as Glee reaction posts).

Salutations, internets. A few things:

1) I beg anyone and everyone who reads this NOT to re-post anything I say on Facebook or Twitter. Some of the things I say on here could cause me great embarrassment at a minimum and possible legal trouble in some cases, and it'd just be...a bad thing. I wouldn't be able to be as weird as I want to on here anymore, y'know? I don't intend to repost anything y'all say, all I'm asking is for the same courtesy toward me.

ETA: I just came across a way to get rid of it on comments and stuff (not in the entry making section, unfortunately, but you can't have everything) courtesy of [livejournal.com profile] gothic_elvis:

1. Install Greasemonkey Add-on for Firefox So, yup. You gotta have Mozilla.

2. Go Here and install that program after installing Greasemonkey. It should work immediately without an internet restart needed. Mine did, so I'm just going by that.

PLEASE REPOST THIS EVERYWHERE.

2) A meme gacked from [livejournal.com profile] spirited_lizard:

Comment on this entry and I will give you a letter. Name 10 songs you love starting with that letter.

I was given S (evidently in honor of the Stark song she had in hers) )

3) Some comments on the last Hunger Games book, Mockingjay, by Suzanne Collins

Cut for spoilers and such )

Aaaand that's all for now. TB write-ups to follow later tonight, just making a few finishing touches. Ta!

Ugh, internets, have I mentioned recently that being a responsible adult kind of sucks? Starting a new bank account with Wells Fargo turned out to be surprisingly difficult (on account of what turned out to be a broken ATM), then the fiasco with my books, struggling to find a job on campus, and then dealing with our inconsiderate asshole neighbors in the apartment above us. I had to file a noise complaint today!

Let me be clear; I love loud music as much as the next gal, but when your neighbors can clearly distinguish the lyrics and occasionally feel the bass vibrating in their teeth? That's going too far. I hate filing complaints, I really do (ditto re: Le Boyfriend), so the fact that Le Boyfriend and I both felt the need to say something to the R.A. should speak for itself.

I won't even get started on the sickening irony of how difficult it was to get everything sorted for my online Stress Management class. Maybe it's a test or something.

Basically, this is how I feel about humanity at the moment:

Photobucket

Lawd, give me patience, because I might kill someone if you give me strength.

Anyway, here follows a summary of my first two days of class:

Real life ramblings ahoy! (probably a bit snarkier than usual on account of neighbors-induced bad mood) )

I know that doesn't sound like a lot of classes, but there's also the Spanish Level I and Stress Management classes that I have online (which have their own headaches, let me tell you).

Life has been such a pain lately that it's even thrown me off my schedule of things I planned to post here. I hate how hectic things get at the start of a new semester *headscreen* I hope it all smoothes out sooner rather than later so that I can get back to being funny and light-hearted and stuff :-\

How goes school (either college or otherwise) for everyone else out there? I read y'all's posts but if anyone's looking for a partner in headache-dom, feel free to vent here.

A few letters/things I want to get off my chest:

Dear RL friend,

While I'm touched that you value my opinion enough to send me your writing for critique, it's getting to where I really wish you would stop. Quite honestly, your writing isn't that good, but you get defensive as fuck if I point out a problem and pout if I don't point out any problems, so I'm not really sure what you want me to do. Thanks a million for putting me in the most awkward position ever, I pity the poor fuck you will eventually take on as your professional editor/agent (RL friend wants to be a writer).

Long-sufferingly,
[livejournal.com profile] emerald_skies

Potentially unpopular opinion ahoy!

Dear professional social activists of the internet,

This could just be me being irrational, but what the fuck is the point of using racism/sexism/homophobia/transphobia/etc. bingo cards in a discussion? How are those helpful or constructive in any way other than as a good way to make everyone else as non-responsively pissed off as possible? I'm legitimately confused as to how this is supposed to make an effective point. To me, it actually seems rather self-defeating in a trivializing-a-serious-issue-as-a-joke sort of way. I must be missing the point.

Sincerely wishing the fad would goddamn die,
[livejournal.com profile] emerald_skies

Dear La Famille,

I don't know how often anyone has done this to you, but hearing about how "it could always be worse" when trying to blow off some steam about how unhappy you are really doesn't help. In fact, it usually makes it worse ("If my life isn't so bad, then I guess I just suck for being this unhappy"). So I'm sorry that telling me to be glad I don't live in a box or have cancer or something really doesn't magically fix my general malaise.

I still love you anyway,
[livejournal.com profile] emerald_skies

Apologies for the gripe-tastic post, it's just been an annoying couple of days. Am saving my True Blood write up to post alongside the one for the most recent episode, so stay tuned for a double whammy post. Have some vintage James McAvoy brooding prettily so this post isn't a complete waste:

Damn you, internet, for being so goddamn addicting. I was actually going to make an effort to leave the house and try to fight my hermit-dom today but then I stumbled across this little gem (a roundup post of a troll that's been plaguing [livejournal.com profile] fanficrants, [livejournal.com profile] ffrantsrants, and even briefly [livejournal.com profile] customers_suck). Between the comments in the roundup and the posts themselves, this is pretty much me now:

Photobucket

ETA: Forgot to include the other write-up in [livejournal.com profile] sf_drama (it makes things only marginally more comprehensible, but significantly more entertaining).

Normally, I wouldn't care very much (as trolls go, this one's not great), but mental illness came up so now I'm just watching the commenters rip her a new one to make myself feel better, troll-feeding be damned, Supernatural write-ups can wait.

Internets, it's just been one of those days for me lately. Several days, actually (almost a week), but that doesn't read as smoothly. So, I need to vent some things. )

Photobucket

Teal dear: I'm having an impressive streak of the bad kind of crazy and just scared the crap out of my own family. Now they're all treating me like I'm both made of glass and strapped with dynamite and it's that perfect mix of infuriating and depressing that makes you want to go back to bed and stay there until life stops sucking.

God, I'm sorry this turned into one of those entries. Le Boyfriend is incommunicado for the moment, any RL friends that would actually care about this crap are on vacation, La Famille likes to pretend I'm not crazy, and my shrink is more than I can afford right now, so I was pretty much out of options.

Well, it was either this or venting at my cat, but a) that just makes me look bag lady levels of crazy and b) her attention span is even shorter than mine.

In any case, I'm almost done with my various reaction posts, I'm just pausing them until my brain chemistry unfucks itself enough that I can actually write something funny. Thanks for listening (er...reading), any hugs/stupid macros/gifs/humorous or fluffy fics/general positive vibes would be sincerely appreciated. Commiserating is also welcome (I know some of y'all are having a bad time too) -- misery loves company, after all.

Can any better informed GK fen on my flist tell me what the fuck has been going on over in that fandom secrets thread? I saw the post about how GK supposedly glorifies war (HA!), how we're all in it just for fantasizing about the pretty boys fucking, etc. etc. Lots of patronizing and frankly insulting sweeping, grandiose statements, in a nutshell. But apparently more has transpired since then? Can someone fill me in (preferably with linkage so I can help catch anyone else up who's just as lost as I am)?

Edit: The wonderful [livejournal.com profile] passionofmind has provided some helpful linkspam

Another excellent response/rebuttal by [livejournal.com profile] chemfishee

Oi, all this fandom-related drama (of one stripe or another) is giving me the makings of a permanent tension headache. I will post my response/thoughts on the GK thing once I know more about it. Also, my ire over the matter should have cooled off enough by then that I'll be able to avoid an excess of capslocked expletives. My response for the moment, however, is this:

Photobucket

Meanwhile, real life seems to be trying its level best to give me a tension headache too. La Famille has been fighting over money issues (long story short: too many issues, not enough money to address them) so the atmosphere around the Ol' Homestead has been...fraught. And then I run into fandom drama when I try to escape into the internet. Can't we all just get along and be carefree (even for a second) like Brad?

Photobucket

Fuck, I need a break. I'll be over here in the corner writing Supernatural Season 5 reaction posts.

So...Le Boyfriend and I just finished watching Jacob's Ladder. Here's basically what happened when the credits finally started rolling...

Photobucket
(our expressions)

Le Boyfriend: What the hell did we just watch?
Me: To be fair, I get the feeling that this movie would've made a lot more sense if we were both stoned out of our gourds.
Le Boyfriend: Honey, there isn't enough weed in the world to make this movie make sense. Just give me the disc jacket so we can send it back and never speak of it again.

Our overall assessment (in gif form):
Photobucket

Seriously though, "mindfuck" doesn't even begin to cover it. This movie, internets, is a mindfuck after some really seriously heavy-duty roofies.

ETA: And, on a Supernatural- and True Blood-related note, seeing Hoyt Fortenberry be a homicidal siren is quite possibly the funniest thing I've seen all week (and that includes the Facebook ad that asked me if I support Glenn Beck). Well played, show!

Argh. Internets, my folks dragged me out to dinner and I completely spaced on the Glee finale as it was airing (I remembered it was today, but...yeah...), so I missed it on T.V. But I did resolve to watch it as soon as I could after dinner and post about it, so here goes nothing!

Immediate reactions/Notes taken as I watched the episode )

So...um...

I need some time to process this (and maybe watch it again) before posting some more coherent thoughts about the episode and the first season as a whole. Hope this was moderately entertaining, at least!

Dear lawn/yard crew,

Did you really, really have to get started at eight in the morning? I actually managed to get to bed early and stay asleep all the way through the night for once and you start up your astonishingly loud equipment RIGHT NEXT TO MY WINDOW at EIGHT IN THE BLOODY MORNING. And then proceeded to do your usual (loud) thing, which just guaranteed that I won't be able to go back to sleep.

1) Six fics I've found and fallen in all kinds of fangirlish love with...
- Three Things Brad Stole From Ray That Ray Will Never Get Back by [livejournal.com profile] meeks00 - A sweet-but-hot Brad/Ray by the lovely and amazing [livejournal.com profile] meeks00. Seriously, the fact that I, a diehard Brad/Nate shipper, am rec'ing a Brad/Ray should speak to the quality of this sucker.

- Those Hands on that Body by [livejournal.com profile] shoshannagold - A bondage/kink-heavy Brad/Nate featuring toppy!Nate in a really excellent way. Especially good for those of us with very vivid, very visual imaginations.

- Bruised by [livejournal.com profile] grim_lupine - Another Brad/Ray, and another good one for those with vivid/visual imaginations. Brad marks Ray up in more ways than one and just...guh, nom nom nom, etc. Bonus points for well-done Ray voice.

- The unexpected tale of Combat Jack by [livejournal.com profile] noelia_g - An adorable Ray/Walt fic in which the boys get a puppy (that only listens to Walt but sort of loves Ray anyway). Pretty much the cutest thing ever (I couldn't stop grinning while I read it). Again, bonus points for a spot-on Ray voice.

- Unethical Behavior In The Workplace by [livejournal.com profile] dark_reaction - Possibly my new favorite Brad/Nate fic in the history of ever. It's an office!AU with hilariously vague, madcap science experiments and Nate has a kid and Brad scares his underlings for fun and just...read it. It's really long but it's seriously great.

- Appropriate Office Behavior by [livejournal.com profile] queeniegalore - Because I clearly have a kink for Brad/Nate in naughty office scenarios. Also features Ray/Jo (which I now totally 'ship because my fellow SPN fans know they'd make the best couple ever) and some deliciously subtle bossy!Nate that manages not to take away from Brad's awesomeness.

Goddamn, y'all, these fics are just...
Photobucket

2) Why Radcakes is one of my favorite actors (in 2 pages or less)

3) At last, a more coherent reaction post of Glee, 1x21, 'Funk' )

4) One of the best mash-ups I've ever seen (warning: will get stuck in your head) )

Now, if y'all will excuse me, I'm slowly-but-surely working on that to-do list I mentioned in my last post.

I just found out that my grandmother is in the hospital with Lyme disease (or something like it, they're still doing tests and stuff). Lyme disease and its ilk usually aren't that much of a problem, but the situation gets stickier when the patient is in her late eighties and has a compromised immune system.

Also, I'm still locked out of my Photobucket (support has yet to email me back) -- this annoys me more than it probably should. ETA: They emailed me back at last, so all's well in Photobucketland at least.

Blergh. Have no fear, internets, I'm still alive, I've just been in a funk.

Cry more, emo kid (a.k.a. a skippable explanation of said funk) )

Basically, I have issues. In other news, the sky is green, grass is blue, bears are Catholic, and Popes...well...you get the idea.

Meanwhile, in less really fucking depressing news...

1) I've made it about 3/4 of the way through Season 1 of Supernatural and I gotta say, I get why it's popular. It has a Buffy-esque feel to me, only with a more interesting variety of monsters and, at least for the moment, more interesting character drama. Plus, in stylistic terms, it pulls some neat film tricks for various purposes (being scary, dropping hints, etc). And, on a shallower note, Jensen Ackles is stupidly good-looking and snarky and I sort of adore how he seems to be surgically attached to his sawed-off shotgun (although I do have much love for Jared Pa"delectable").

Fear not, internets, I'm not turning into one of the classic dangerous!crazy fans of SPN lore, I'm just having fun so far.

2) I miss having new Stark-related things to fangirl over. I did finally persuade Le Boyfriend to watch Die Mommie Die (I wish y'all could've seen his face during Stark's first scene in particular), but it's just not the same. I know he's actually working and stuff right now (which is great), but it's sort of hard to fangirl from basically the opposite end of the country without interviews or non-creepy photos and whatnot to fuel it. Maybe I just haven't been looking in the right places...*sigh*

(Although I did hear through the internet grapevine that Huertas went to see him recently -- any signs of photos from that yet?)

3) Why isn't it June 13th yet? I require my weekly infusions of ASkars, damn it!

4) I've heard some very, very disturbing things about next week's episode of Glee (including the most horrific misuse of Chaka Khan in the history of ever). I'm a bit concerned. Anyone wanna fret with me over the potential frightening implications?

5) I've been contemplating doing a music rec swap post (I recommend y'all things, y'all recommend me things, Youtube links will probably go back and forth like mad). Thoughts? Like it? Hate it? Think I should shut up and get off the internet?

In any case, that's all I've got for now. Sigh.

I hope things are going better for you than they are for me, internets, I really do.

Dear Dad,

Raptor!Jesus only knows, I'm a big fan of spoiling animals. I spoil my cat absolutely rotten -- I probably got the tendency from you actually so really, I get it. However, I think mixing Spaghetti-Os into the dog's dinner (after feeding him the remnants of yours plus various bits and bobs of your snacking during the day) may be overdoing it just a tad.

Now that I think of it, this might at least in part explain why the dog is roughly the size of a small couch. Please to be working on that before we have to roll the dog around the house in a Charlie and the Chocolate Factory sort of scenario?

Your exasperated (but no less loving) daughter,
[livejournal.com profile] emerald_skies

Generally speaking, it's been a fairly low-key sort of day (much needed, really). I'm still catching up on sleep and de-programming my brain from running on college time, and I even managed to send a civil email to my former adviser (who also happens to be the director of the athletic training program that rejected me -- twice) to find out what the fuck I'm supposed to do now. I'm very proud of myself for resisting the temptation to send a carefully crafted, beautifully vitriolic work of sarcasm.

In internet news, I've made the executive decision that tomorrow is going to be a double feature day (two review posts in one day) -- Devour (as requested by [livejournal.com profile] sgrio) and My Bloody Valentine (as chosen on my own). So, basically, it's going to be Jensen Ackles day 'round these parts. Anyone wanna help me come up with a clever name for it? ("Sucky Movie Sunday", "Why Jensen Ackles Why Day", etc.)

As a show of gratitude for making it through such a wordy entry, have a Stark gif for y'all's time:

Oh my God, internets, sometimes I forget just how much I love Le Boyfriend and then he goes and says/does something to remind me. We were chatting on the internet:

Me: so, i heard an interesting piece of celeb news earlier
Le Boyfriend: oh? is viggo mortensen looking to adopt a 6'4" aryan?
Me: no...
Le Boyfriend: ...someday, viggo-dad
Me: a certain green-eyed person i fangirl a lot is engaged
Me: somewhere in LA, askars is weeping inconsolably
Le Boyfriend: or just plowing him anyway and ignoring the ring

DEAD. DONE. That's it, we're totally getting married now.

So I was watching Mick Jagger on Larry King and he said that "it's not about the money" (and "[The Rolling Stones] weren't interested in money") and I just about died, y'all. My family and I were like "LIAR LIAR TOO-TIGHT PANTS ON FIRE." At least Keith Richards is unabashed in his interest in money/fame.

(Side note: Mick, you're not fooling anyone by dodging the question of whether or not marijuana should be legalized)

Anyway, I've made my way through about half of Season 6 of OZ and I have a few thoughts on what I've seen so far )

Finally, I pose a question to the Generation Kill fans on my flist (of which there are many): Do any of you perceive a fandom rift between Brad/Nate shippers and everyone else? Because I heard something about that being a remote possibility and it surprised me -- I haven't seen anything like that! On the other hand, I've been more than a little distracted so it's conceivable that I could've missed something (which is where y'all come in). Thoughts?

In any case, stay frosty, internets. Also, stay tuned for a reaction post to Glee 1x19 'Dream On'.
